Ronald McDonald House & Famous 4th Street Cookies Fundraiser

Animation created by RL Studios

Our client Famous 4th Street Cookies raised $7,500 for the Ronald McDonald House! RL Studios was honored to capture moments during #NationalChocolateChipCookieDay.

The Famous 4th Street Cookie Company was founded in 1978 with one goal: serving delicious, fresh-baked cookies made only with the finest ingredients. Using the same recipe for their award-winning cookies for more than 40 years, owners Brian and Tina Phillips have grown the original bakery concept – born in South Philadelphia and raised in the Reading Terminal Market – into an e-commerce and wholesale distributor of the most delicious cookies money can buy. 38 Essential Restaurants: Tambayan

Congratulations to our client Tambayan who was recently listed on Eater’s 38 Essential Restaurants!

No list of Philly’s best restaurants would be complete without a shoutout to a Reading Terminal stall, and what better vendor to highlight than Kathy Mirano and her Filipino breakfast and lunch spot, Tambayan? Mirano got her start working at Reading Terminal over twenty years ago, so the opening of her own location was a full-circle moment. The fried lumpia, Filipino spaghetti, stuffed pandesal rolls, and tinadtad stew are wonderful — but don’t skip dessert. The ube macarons are one of a kind.

Client Spotlight: Little Marrakesh Bazaar

Meet Chakir!

I was born in the plateaued town of Oarzazate, Morocco, just south of Northern Africa’s resource-rich Atlas Mountains. My story began in a town known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert. My hometown is my heritage, and I owe it so much: from the “Liquid Gold” argan oil, the most expensive spice in the world, to the lovely and strong wood of the thuya tree, it also gave me a front seat to Earth’s exquisite bounty and the artisans who brilliantly craft from it.

I moved to the United States in 2005. My love of fine craftsmanship brought him to Philadelphia’s historic Jewelers’ Row. There, I sold unique engagement rings, created custom pieces and learned to repair and maintain fine jewelry. In 2014, I decided to bring my heritage to the United States and built this shop: Little Marrakesh Bazaar.

I built Little Marrakesh Bazaar to offer the most authentic of Moroccan handcrafted homegoods for discerning shoppers and gift-givers. I work with local artisans directly, flying on a regular basis to my home and carefully selecting each piece I want to share with you.

Chester Change Agents - "JOY"

RL Studios founder, Robb Lim, has been co-instructing an arts and activism program at Chester High School since 2019. Dreams of a student-produced art exhibit finally came to fruition this summer.

The Chester Change Agents (CCA) program aims to cultivate a space where young people can safely share commentary on relevant sociopolitical issues, examine the ways in which they can affect change, and work toward implementing actionable solutions through civic engagement and artistic expression. Developed in response to youth feedback and the current social landscape surrounding #BlackLivesMatter and similar movements, CCA centers on the contributions of Black and Indigenous people of color (BIPOC) in social justice advocacy and art. ⁣

Students decided sharing images that evoked Black Joy from their perspective can be a way to combat the negative narrative that is often portrayed in Black communities. ⁣

A huge theme of this program is being purposeful with your actions. The decision to use disposable cameras forces the photographer to be selective with the images they capture. We are used to taking hundreds of photos that we never look at again with today’s advances in smartphones. With these cameras, you only have 26 shots (make them count!)⁣

In addition to the students' photography, they also selected colors from a variety of paint samples that evoked JOY. During our sessions with the CCA students, music was a universal source of joy. We decided to use the selected colors and paint records to symbolize the joy music brings us. You can find the painted “sculptures” floating in the left corner of the space.

CEF Students Visit Widener University!

OUR STUDENTS KEPT BUSY THIS YEAR.

Students were able to continue their educational journey with strong programming over summer break. Students got to solve a mystery through science with Widener University’s chemistry department. We got to check out college-life at Widener University as well; students toured the campus, experienced dorm-life first hand, learned about some Widener Pride traditions, and ended the tour with a family style dinner, YUM!
